I was recently diagnosed to have hypertension. Deciding not to skip the annual check-up turned out to be a good decision because I was actually surprised to find out that I was hypertensive since I never had any symptom. After the doctor diagnosed my condition, he discussed the various measures to lower my blood pressure.
First and foremost, there are anti-hypertensive agents. My doctor told me about the different anti-hypertensive agents and how each of these work. Some of the anti-hypertensive medications that he discussed are calcium channel blockers, diuretics, angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, beta-blockers, and many more.
I really felt sad when the doctor started discussing the different side effects brought about by these anti-hypertensive drugs. Even though the intensity and kind of side effect can be different from one patient to another, I did not want to live with these side effects for the rest of my life. Sadly, I do not have any choice but to take the anti-hypertensive agents since I also did not want to suffer the complications of uncontrolled hypertension.
The second measure that the doctor discussed is regular exercise. The doctor told me that having a sedentary lifestyle is a risk factor for hypertension. And since I always sit in front of the computer during work, I believe that this could have contributed to my hypertension.
Therefore, my doctor advised me to include 30 minutes of exercise in my every day routine. He even told me that aerobic exercises like brisk walking, jogging, skiing, swimming, skating, and others are the best aerobic exercises for my hypertension.
Proper diet is the third thing that the doctor discussed. Indeed, our overall health can be greatly influenced by the food that we eat. First, the doctor said that I increase my intake of nuts, fruits, fish, poultry, low-fat dairy products, and whole grain products. Second, the doctor said that my diet should include decreased amounts of red meats, processed meats, as well as alcoholic and caffeinated foods and beverages. Third, my daily salt intake should only be limited to 1,500 milligrams. Fourth, the doctor said that I increase my intake of vegetables and fruits that contain high amounts of magnesium, fiber, and potassium. Samples of these fruits and vegetables are bananas, apples, broccoli, carrots, mangoes, raisins, oranges, squash, pineapples, spinach, potatoes, tomatoes, and many more. And fifth, my intake of sweets must be limited to 5 tablespoons per week only.
Stress reduction is the third thing that the doctor discussed. And my doctor said that stress is also one of the risk factors of high blood pressure. First, the doctor helped me in identifying the source of my stress. For the past months, I have been dealing with really stressful situations at work. And because avoiding stressful office situations is close to impossible, I needed to know the different stress reduction techniques that I could apply. I was able to find out that simple techniques like strolling in the park, playing outdoor games with my children, listening to classical music, and deep breathing can actually relieve stress.
Indeed, all these four measures have been very effective in my resolve to lower my blood pressure. And I recently started taking ion eXtra capsules which has significantly reduced my blood pressure.
