We spend a lot of time and a lot of money doing the Christmas shopping. We spend hours trawling round the shops and surfing the net trying to find something completely perfect for our nearest and dearest. Unfortunately we can’t get it perfect every time. If it doesn’t end up going straight in the bin as soon as our back is turned it should be a good result for some gifts. There’s always one set of oven mitts or some bath salts that always get given to a different family member each year.
The secret is to stop trying to find the perfect practical present. Gimmicks should be avoided just as much though. I think everyone now had a blanket with arms or a USB lava lamp. Your job is to strike the perfect balance. Find something that is actually practical but at the same time not meant to be taken too seriously. My personal favourite is the novelty shower curtain or any bathroom accessories. Looking at it you can see how well it fits our brief. You’ve found something that’s actually funny and useful, also shower curtains or bath screens can be nice and affordable. If you want to take it a bit further, you could try novelty toilet seats. Make sure you know the person you’re giving this too well enough to know they’ll appreciate the humour.
If great aunt Ethel has no sense of humour then she’s probably not going to see the funny side of this gift so stick with the wine for her. The bathroom really is a great room to buy for if you’re stuck and you know they’ve got a good sense of humour. Best of all because it is technically a practical gift it will probably get used at some point even if it doesn’t end up in their main bathroom. There you are, one great gift promised to please all.
