There are many different types of vent louvers. Some are made for purely decorative purposes while others are made to withstand extreme weather conditions. The louvers provide an alternative in areas where a heavy steel may not be able to be used effectively.
Aluminum louvers are about two-thirds lighter than steel, but provide the kind of versatility that many people need. They are very easy to design and can be made to fit any shape or area where they will be used. The louvers are available in a powder coating or can be painted. They also can be coated with a special color if that is desired.
Louvers that have been designed specifically for architectural or decorative purposes do not have mobile slats. These exterior louvers are often found as part of abstract or modern building designs and cover entryways or irregularities in the buildings design. Many architects incorporate aluminum louvers into the design of their buildings to add texture and depth to the design.
Most people are familiar with gable louvers. The louvers are installed on the end of an attic to ventilate the attic. When a person wants a gable louver for decorative purposes, they will have closed slats which will not open. Gable louvers can be shaped and designed to match any building. When renovating an older home, many people find that having gables louvers made to match the opening in the attic is cost effective and easy.
The higher that the gable louver is placed on an attic wall, the more effective ventilation is supplied to the attic. The blades of the louver adjust with the flow of air being forced through the vent. These blades are slanted downward so that objects and debris do not fly into the vent on windy days.
An exhaust fan is often installed in the attic with the gable louver that has a temperature control. When the temperature reaches a certain point the fan comes on and the blades of the louver open to allow hot air to flow easily from the attic area. This keeps the overall temperature of a home much cooler.
Stamped louvers are made from a single sheet of aluminum that has the slats stamped into the metal with a press. These louvers are pre-shaped to fit the equipment or enclosure where they will be installed. Many types of equipment use these louvers to provide ventilation to the motor that resides in the enclosure. A person will often see these types of louvers on their air conditioning unit in their home. The louvers are also used on radiator covers and lockers. The vents may be located in one part of the aluminum or create a design or pattern across the entire sheet of aluminum.
Aluminum window louvers are widely used in remote locations to protect heavy duty equipment. The heavy duty extruded aluminum louvers are made using reinforced aluminum. This aluminum is made with a combination of reinforcing elements that make it durable in any type of weather. Many oil rigs use heavy duty louvers for their equipment. The equipment requires protection from the elements, but must also have a smooth and continual airflow to protect the motors within the equipment.
