Models For The Newcomer

There are many different kinds of plastic model kits out there and it would seem that many of these are just not suitable for people that are just getting into the hobby. So what model kits are useful for people just starting and what ones could you simply not give to them in fear of them messing everything up?

The Do’s

Lego

A lot of people would not call Lego a model kit at all but I would actually disagree with this, now you know why it is on the list. For a first time builder Lego is great because the instructions are quite simple and the end result is always good. The reason this is top of the list for people that have no experience in model building is because even the hardest of models has easy instructions.

RC Models

Okay so driving around RC vehicles like RC Helicopter is something that is pretty easy to do but the reason this doesn’t fall in the do’s category is simple because they are very hard things to build and repair and this is the reason why they are really hard to get into. If you are looking for a quick bit of fun then great but some of these are expensive and if you cannot repair them then you are stuffed. The same goes for things like Scalextric sets.

The Don’ts

Matchstick Models

These types of models are great to get into if you can make them but they are very hard to actually start it up. Instructions are hard to follow if you are buying a set from a store and they are harder to build if you are doing it from scratch.

If someone is starting up the hobby then you need to make sure you get the right thing.
