Remember they want your cash!
Remember all makers say their Table is best for you! You need to work out in your mind what is important when you buy a table tennis table. Are you playing with a few mates in the garage after school, or can you see yourself as the next Olympic Champion, because in this day and age not many people have got money to burn right!
Are you purchasing a Table Tennis Table for all the family.
If you intend to allow all of the family to use the table I would propose looking to the budget end of the market. Young children will inevitabley give their first table tennis table a hard time, so if you buy a buget table first, and the enjoy playing you can upgrade to a superior table later.
Permanent Vs Fold Flat Table Tennis Tables.
Unless you are absolutely sure you will want to leave your table permanently set-up i would strongly suggest you purchase a Folding Table Tennis Table, they should be very easy to set-up and fold away. Make sure it can be opened and closed by one person. Good tables have rollers so you can move it around. Tables fitted with rollers shoud have effective brakes to stop movement when playing.
Nobody can see into the future so foldaway tables will make most sense for the long term, and can obviously be left set up as and when required. There are clearly many things to deliberate when making an expensive purchase.
Is Table Thickness an issue?
The upper end of the market are 1 inch (25mm) thick, this is a competition standard table and does come with increased cost. Most good quality 19mm or .75 inch are ideal for most people’s use. Most top players will not be afraid to admit that their first, or second for that matter, table was not full spec competition standard. So I would recommend looking for a 19mm thick top from a good manufacturer like Stiga, unless you can find a thicker top for a great price.
Once you get to a good competition standard you will be well into the sport by now, and investing in a table of the same standard that you are going to use in tournaments will make perfect sense.
Don’t just look at the playing surface.
The tables support legs are equally crucial. Leg levellers are usefull if your floors are not even, like in my house! This is a must have if you want to play outside. Make sure your table top is accurately 76cm from the floor. Overall quality will be even more important if you have kids as they may really test out your new table with some serious use. Also don’t forget other things like Net Fittings etc.
All things must be taken into account if you want to spend your money wisely. Table Tennis is a great fun sport for all the family. More info can be found at Tabletennis-table.com
