I’m just starting to learn about stunt kites and I am at the point in understanding some basic techniques so that I can do some simple stunts and tricks. But when I was thinking about these techniques, my mind was racing to the question about competitions for some reason. At this point, that is not even on my radar screen, and I’m not sure if it will even be for me, but how long do you have to practice and how much experience do you need to enter a stunt kite competition?
I have some very basic questions about these competitions such as, can a total neophyte just enter a competition or is there some sort of requirements that have to be completed before you can join? How long is each “run” of flying? How do you know what to do? Who judges you? Do you need any special equipment? What about insurance? How long are the competitions? When should you get there?
Ok, maybe I’ve got the cart before the horse, but my mind was just wandering as I was thinking about how to fly a kite and it jumped to a competition, go figure. But I guess it could be a goal to achieve in the future and having those questions answered will go a long way to achieving that goal if it is one that I choose to pursue.
I’ve seen several news posts recently about stunt kite flying competitions, but they didn’t give much information about the details. I guess it was just aimed at those people who would like to go and watch, which I guess would make the most sense to do. That way I could see what they do and take some time to talk to the participants and judges and find out the answers to most of my questions. I guess I’ll have to put that on my list of things to do in the near future.
