Guys, don’t get carried away with fashion. Leave it to the girls. If that sounds sexist, then so be it, but the fact is, you’re not genetically programmed for style or taste – they are!
If there is one exception to the guy’s fashion sense rule, it may be in the area of watches. Men seem to have watch fetishes in much the same way that women have shoe fetishes. Guys really identify with their watches.
A men’s sport watch says a lot about the man wearing it. Besides telling the time, it tells anybody who happens to notice it much about the wearer’s favorite sports. If he’s into water sports, it will be waterproof. If he’s not really into water sports but wants you to think he is, it will be waterproof but totally impractical. Unless he’s a millionaire, no real sailor or surfer is going to spent thousands of dollars on a sports watch. It’s too much of a risk when a cheap one will do just fine.
A leather watch is a thing of beauty. Amazingly, most men seem to have an innate sense of which color and style of leather wristwatch suits them best. While the limited choices (black or brown band, silver or gold face) make their decision easier, they need to be given credit for, nine times out of ten at least, making the right decision.
When it comes to shoes, men are completely hopeless. What person in their right mind would voluntarily choose to wear a pair of leather brown boots to a Sunday brunch at a nice restaurant? Yet men do it all the time. Maybe they’re trying to show the world how macho they are, but it doesn’t work. They just look stupid.
Remarkably, it is possible to make an even worse decision. Some men decide that since it’s Sunday, they have a right to wear their cheap flip-flops to Sunday brunch. How embarrassed their wives or girlfriends must be when they come walking into a nice restaurant with a man who is attracting attention to his ugly feet with his noisy sandals!
We just won’t go into the clothing issue other than to say, thank god men are conservative. Since all men tend to wear almost exactly the same thing to work, they can do so without causing anybody distress. Don’t ever risk trying something new. It could cost you everything.
Guys, you’re only on safe ground with your watch. Other than that, leave fashion to the gals.
